Position Overview
The Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for all aspects of the volunteer recruitment and retention to expand the number of students and families served by Super Stars Literacy programs; increase community support for SSL; enhance and enrich existing SSL programs; and create opportunities for youth and adults to positively impact the lives of students in their communities. They must maintain thorough records of volunteer information and work.


The Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for training classroom tutor volunteers to assist in after school literacy programs for K-2nd grade. The Volunteer Coordinator will recruit volunteers to assist in special events such as family literacy nights and will also collaborate with the program staff to execute successful events that promote productive literacy experiences at home. The Volunteer Coordinator will serve a typical work day of 9:00-6:00 PM adjusted scheduled evening events.

● Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university
● Experience in community organization and recruitment
● Demonstrated skill in coordinating projects and events
● Excellent attention to detail and record-keeping skills
● Friendly demeanor, motivating & inspiring to a diverse population
● Excellent communication (written & verbal) & interpersonal skills
● Poise and confidence with public speaking
● Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other computer applications. Preferred: Salesforce, Constant Contact, Google Drive


Primary Responsibilities
● Support the Super Stars Literacy program by recruiting, interviewing, placing, training,
supervising, evaluating, recognizing, and retaining volunteers for the SSL after-school
program and other organization needs (including administration, data
management/entry, program planning, and program preparation).
● Maintain volunteer training materials and develop current curriculum for volunteer tutors to utilize in classrooms.

● Maintain volunteer database and record activities using Salesforce CRM database & the Google Drive.
● Represent Super Stars Literacy and promote the program at volunteer and non-profit fairs and/or conduct information sessions at volunteer recruitment events.
● Liaise with community outreach staff at colleges, universities, high schools, and organizations to comply with work-study or service learning requirements.
● Update volunteer needs and news on social media sites and the website.
● Recruit volunteers for one-time events such as Family Literacy Nights and prepping program material.
● Support Special One-Day Volunteer Events by helping the Super Stars Literacy Development Team recruit volunteers and organize special learning days for volunteer teams.
● Participate in regular weekly staff training, development, supervision, and team meetings.
● Participate in National Days of Service and other AmeriCorps activities.

 

Position Duration: All members will serve full-time from August 2018 to June 2019 and must serve a total of 1700 hours during that time.


Member Benefits: All members receive a monthly living allowance. In addition, members may be eligible for health coverage, loan forbearance, and child care assistance while in service. Members who complete a full term of service may be eligible to receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award for $5,600, which can be used to pay back loans or for future educational expenses.


Eligibility Requirements: All members must pass a NSOPW check, have DOJ and FBI fingerprinting, and tuberculosis clearance prior to the start of the term of service. In addition, applicants must be able to supply a proof of citizenship.
